How To Lay A Garden Pathway

Pathways are simple but effective additions to a garden and can be laid easily as part of a DIY project.

This video from Masters Home Improvement demonstrates one quick and simple method of laying a modern pathway in a garden, which may be chosen as a practical footpath or to visually break up a lawn.

To prepare and lay a garden path, you will need concrete mix, stone pavers and decorative stone such as gravel, along with a spirit level, shovel, rubber mallet and rubber float. Consider decorative concrete pavers as a low maintenance, long-lasting alternative to natural stone such as limestone.

The pavers should first be laid dry, giving you the chance to set the right spacing between them to ensure they are comfortable to step over without needing to stride, and won’t cause any safety hazards. Fit them in place on top of a concrete layer applied beneath every slab, using the spirit level to ensure they are upright and at the right angle.

Decorative stone can then be used to fill up any gaps, and weed matting can also be laid to prevent unsightly plant pests from sprouting in your pathway. The concrete should be allowed to set overnight before the pavers are exposed to foot traffic.
